Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland. Several surveys have named Zurich the city with the best quality of life in the world as well as the wealthiest city in Europe. Many museums and art galleries can be found in the city, including the Swiss National Museum and the Kunsthaus. Schauspielhaus Zürich is one of the most important theatres in the German-speaking world.

DAY 2: ZURICH

The most important sights such as the Old Town, Bahnhofstrasse, Grossmünster church and Lake Zurich are all based in Zurich’s town center. They are all reached within a three-hour walk or can be accessed by public transport. Culture lovers will enjoy a visit to the museum, Opera House, Schauspielhaus (municipal theater) or Tonhalle (concert hall). Nature fans can take a trip to Zurich’s very own Uetliberg “mountain”, visit the zoo or take a boat to Rapperswil.

Afternoon free for shopping. Zurich has the reputation of a shopping city, even if not quite that of London or Milano. Especially Bahnhofstrasse is well known around the globe as one of the most exclusive and expensive shopping streets in the world. For Swiss and urban design, the area around Langstrasse is a good spot. Don’t forget to taste the world-famous Swiss chocolate. The traditional Swiss chocolatier Läderach sells freshly produced chocolate, filled chocolates and pralines. You even get an insight into the craft of confectionery here, as some of the chocolate is actually produced on site – creating irresistible aromas! There are 20 different varieties on offer, in slabs which are sold by weight. Chocolates are sold by piece. In addition to the Läderach chocolate you can also get all the Swiss chocolate brands from Lindt to Toblerone.

The most famous districts for nightlife are the Niederdorf in the old town with bars, restaurants, lounges, hotels, clubs, etc. and a lot of fashion shops for a young and stylish public and the Langstrasse in the districts 4 and 5 of the city. There are authentic amusements: Brazilian bars, punk clubs, hip-hop stages, Caribic restaurants, arthouse cinemas, Turkish kebabs and Italian espresso bars, but also the famous red light district of Zurich.

After a continental breakfast at your hotel, you will have the optional tour where we can take you on one of the most memorable experiences of your Europe tour – visiting Mt. Titlis and Lucerne. Adventure awaits you in a sensational cable-car ride up to Mt. Titlis. Marvel at the world’s first revolving cable-car ride, a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. DAY 4: ILANZ, MILAN

After a buffet breakfast, check-out and proceed to Milan. Milan is the second-most populous city in Italy and serves as the capital of Lombardy. The Milan metropolitan region is part of the so-called Blue Banana, the area of Europe with the highest population and industrial density. Its business district hosts the Borsa Italiana (Italy’s main stock exchange) and the headquarters of the largest national banks and companies.

After lunch, walk around the many sights of Milan. Milan’s museums, theatres and landmarks (including the Milan Cathedral, the fifth-largest cathedral in the world, and Santa Maria delle Grazie, decorated with Leonardo da Vinci paintings, such as The Last Supper) attract over 8 million visitors annually. You will visit all of the major sights, including da Vinci’s Last Supper, the Duomo (Milan’s cathedral), La Scala Opera House, the charming canal area, and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping arcade.

Spend the afternoon shopping in the fashion capital of the world. Purveying hot-off-the-catwalk clothes by the likes of Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Prada and Versace, it’s little wonder that Milan’s upscale fashion shopping district is known as the Quadrilatero della Moda – the Rectangle of Gold.

After breakfast and check-out, departure towards the world-famous city of Pisa. It is most well-known because of its Leaning Tower of Pisa. You will visit the Tower and the amazing carved marble Cathedral and Baptistery in the Square of Miracles.

After lunch, departure towards Florence. The tour begins at the majestic Piazza del Duomo to see the Cathedral crowned by Brunelleschi’s Dome, the Giotto’s Bell Tower, and the Baptistery with Ghiberti’s bronze “Gate of Paradise”. Then, visit the Academy of Fine Arts, where Michelangelo’s David is displayed. Tour ends at the Piazzale Michelangelo with the most spectacular view over Florence.

DAY 6: FLORENCE, VERONA, PADOVA

After breakfast, departure towards Verona. Verona is the city of love as it is famous for being the place where William Shakespeare set three of his plays: Romeo and Juliet, The Two Gentlemen of Verona, and The Taming of the Shrew. Shakespeare placed star-crossed lovers Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet in Verona for good reason: romance, drama and fatal family feuding have been the city’s hallmark for centuries. From the 3rd century BC Verona was a Roman trade centre with ancient gates, a forum (now Piazza delle Erbe) and a grand Roman arena, which still serves as one of the world’s great opera venues. In the Middle Ages the city flourished under the wrathful della Scala clan, who were as much energetic patrons of the arts as they were murderous tyrants. Their elaborate Gothic tombs, the Arche Scaligere, are just off Piazza dei Signori. Don’t forget to touch Juliet’s statue for good luck.

After lunch, stroll along the main streets and pick up a souvenir or two. Verona isn’t a very cheap place to go shopping. It is located close to the Lago di Garda, in one of Italy’s wealthiest regions. The shops and prices reflect that, and so you find brands like Gucci, Armani or Louis Vitton along the main shopping street Via Mazzini.

Venice is a cluster of over one hundred small islands with its marble palaces built on water and it has numerous souvenir shopping opportunities. Board your chartered boat to the traditional centre of the city – Piazza San Marco. This city of 117 islands in the Venetian Lagoon is sure to leave you mystified. After lunch, see the St. Mark’s Basilica, Bridge of Sighs, the Doges Palace, the Campanile and many more sights. Visit a Murano Glass Factory and see the skills of these master craftsmen.

 After breakfast departure to Postojna, which at the time of the Austro-Hungarian Empire constituted the only exit to the Adriatic Sea. You will visit Postojna cave, which is a network of 23 kilometres of tunnels, galleries and halls, in which experienced guides have accompanied more than 30 million visitors in over 200 years. This is the biggest classical karst cave and the most visited tourist cave in Europe. The cave train will take you into the depths where, thanks to the electric lighting, you can appreciate all the dimensions and nuances of the underground karst, where the geological past is written in a unique way.

After lunch and a wine tasting at a wine cellar in the karst region, you will visit Predjama castle, a castle built directly into a cliff edge, with an underground tunnel through the mountain. Photostop.

Departure towards Ljubljana. An evening of shopping in the largest shopping centre in Slovenia will follow. BTC City is the largest shopping center in Slovenia with specialized shops, supermarkets, and more than 450 stores. Free time. After breakfast, departure towards Bled. Bled is one of the most prestigious Slovenian resorts with its glacier-formed Alpine lake, the famous island of the Slavic goddess of life, Živa, and the oldest castle in Slovenia. In the 19th century, the Swiss doctor Arnold Rikli discovered the beneficial natural resources here and established a spa centre, making Bled one of the most popular touristic places in Austria-Hungary. You will traverse the lake in a traditional boat called pletna towards Bled Island, which was visited by pilgrims as early as the ancient times. From Bled castle, you will admire the fairy-tale lake and the high limestone peaks of the Julian Alps. Lunch.

After lunch head over to the mountain village of Bohinj, home of the largest natural glacial lake in Slovenia, Lake Bohinj. There are many humorous myths relating to Bohinj. It is said that the Turks (the mighty conquerors) turned around when they tried to invade Bohinj, because they thought it was the end of the world. Another myth says that a magic creature, Zlatorog (the Goldhorn), lives in the mountains.

Dinner in Ljubljana. You will party the night away in one of Ljubljana’s classy nightclubs as Cirkus. The club Cirkus offers a unique and exclusive nightclub experience for enthusiastic groups of partygoers during the week and especially on weekends and is able to cater to the needs of up to 1000 guests. The club was designed in an old enchanting cinema-theatre and it stretches across 2 stories of lavishing galleries, including an intimate and cosy VIP area. The focal point is an elevated DJ booth, showcasing top international and regional DJs, singers, musicians and other artists as they spin and perform a blend of various urban genres, topped with colourful entertainers, such as dancers and live acts.

DAY 10: LJUBLJANA, ZAGREB

After breakfast, a sightseeing walking tour of Ljubljana. Ljubljana has everything that modern capitals have to offer, and on top of that, it has managed to keep the pleasant and relaxing atmosphere of a smaller city. You will visit the old part of town along the Ljubljanica River and you will see the most important cultural and historical monuments including the Three Bridges and the New and Old Markets where you will be delighted with boutique shops and nice restaurants. We will also stop at the famous bridge and learn a few secrets of the medieval city before the path continues to the town square with the Town Hall and the city icon – a fountain symbolizing the three rivers of Carniola. We will also visit the nearby baroque church of St. Nicholas, the food market and the Dragon Bridge with its four dragons that protect the city while also serving as its trademark. With the funicular railway you will climb to the castle which rises above the town. You will finally climb the castle’s tower and enjoy the view over the city and its green surroundings.

Departure towards Zagreb. Zagreb is a city of parks, palaces, museums and universities. The city lies on the south-western part of the Pannonian Basin and extends between the Sava River and Mount Medvednica. It represents an important link between Central Europe and Asia Minor and the shortest link between the Pannonian Plain and the Adriatic Sea. Departure on a tour of the biggest attractions of the city such as the Cathedral, the picturesque and bustling marketplace Dolac, the Church of St. Mark – the symbol of Zagreb, the vantage point of the tower Lotrščak, which offers a splendid view over Zagreb, the stone gate where you can light a candle, and Bana Jelačič Square, which is not only the crossroads of the upper and lower parts of the city but also the heart of the city, connecting the young and old residents of Zagreb. After breakfast, departure towards the Plitvice Lakes National Park and tour of the Park in the afternoon. It is composed of 16 blue and green lakes, connected with more than 90 waterfalls and rapids. With the formation of travertine and the partition of the river bed, lakes have formed. After breakfast, a drive through the marvellous gorge of the Neretva River towards Bosnia’s star city, Mostar. Mostar was named after the bridge keepers (mostari) who in the medieval times guarded the Stari Most (Old Bridge) over the Neretva. The Old Bridge, built by the Ottomans in the 16th century, is one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most recognizable landmarks, and is considered one of the most exemplary pieces of Islamic architecture in the Balkans.

After lunch, the tour will continue in the beautiful city of Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik has always been Croatia’s richest city, but today it is one of the best tourist cities in the Mediterranean, known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic.” The city is located in the extreme south of Croatia, at the foot of the hill Holy Wrath, just 35 km from the border with Montenegro. The Old Town is upheld by high city walls and joined UNESCO in 1979. Although it was heavily destroyed in the 1667 earthquake, Dubrovnik managed to preserve its Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque churches, monasteries, palaces and fountains. On the walking tour of Old Dubrovnik, you will walk by the Rector’s Palace, Bell Tower Clock, Orlando’s Column and the Sponza Palace. You will also see the Dominican Monastery and Franciscan Monastery with its Pharmacy, one of the oldest in the world.

After breakfast, departure towards Montenegro’s capital, Podgorica. The city sits at the confluence of two rivers. West of the broad Morača is what passes for the business district. The smaller Ribnica River divides the eastern side in two. To the south is Stara Varoš, the heart of the Ottoman town. North of the Ribnica is Nova Varoš, an attractive, mainly low-rise precinct of late-19th-/early-20th-century buildings housing a lively mixture of shops and bars. At its heart is Trg Republika, the main square.

Departure towards Sarajevo for lunch and a walking tour. Sarajevo, capital of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been influenced by a number of cultures and civilizations. In the 1990s Sarajevo was besieged and on the edge of annihilation. Today, its restored historic centre is full of welcoming cafes and good-value lodgings, the bullet holes largely plastered over on the city’s curious architectural mixture of Ottoman and Austro Hungarian buildings.

The antique stone-flagged alleys of Baščaršija give the delightful Old Town core a certain Turkish feel. Directly north and south, steep valley sides are fuzzed with red-roofed Bosnian houses and prickled with uncountable minarets, climbing towards green-topped mountain ridges.

Afternoon free. There are many shopping opportunities in Belgrade from the luxurious upscale boutiques and department stores to the Bazaars. Unlike many city bazaars, it is not open only one day a week but it is now a permanent set up and open all week.

Shopping downtown provides the benefit of many boutiques in one area as well as the architectural beauty of the city as your backdrop rather than a commercial centre. There is a pedestrian-only zone from Kalemegdan to Trg Republike that is full of shops and city action. This area is not only home to boutiques however; there are traditional malls here such as the City Passage and Millennium shopping centres.

It is one of the oldest cities in the Balkans and Europe, and has from ancient times been considered a gateway between the East and the West. Niš was settled in pre-Roman times and flourished during the time of local-boy-made-good Emperor Constantine (AD 280–337). Turkish rule lasted from 1386 until 1877 despite several Serb revolts; the Tower of Skulls and Niš Fortress are reminders of Ottoman dominion. The Nazis built one of Serbia’s most notorious concentration camps here, ironically named ‘the Red Cross’.

After lunch, departure towards Sofia. Bulgaria’s pleasingly laid-back capital, Sofia is a largely modern, youthful city, while its old east-meets-west atmosphere is still very much evident, with a scattering of onion-domed churches, Ottoman mosques and stubborn Red Army monuments sharing the skyline with vast shopping malls and glassy five-star hotels. Sofia’s grey, blocky civic architecture lends a lingering Soviet tinge to the place, but it’s also a surprisingly green city. Vast parks and manicured gardens offer welcome respite from the busy city streets, and the ski slopes and hiking trails of mighty Mt Vitosha are just a short bus ride from the city centre. Home to many of Bulgaria‘s finest museums, galleries, restaurants and entertainment venues, Sofia may persuade you to stick around and explore further. Dinner.

After breakfast, a day trip to the magnificent Rila Monastery. Bulgaria’s largest and most renowned monastery emerges abruptly out of a forested valley in the Rila Mountains. It’s a major attraction for both Bulgarian pilgrims and foreign tourists. On summer weekends the site is especially busy, though at other times it provides more solitude.

The monastery was founded in AD 927 by hermit monk Ivan Rilski. Originally built 3km to the northeast, it came to its current location in 1335. By the 14th century’s end, it had become a powerful feudal fiefdom. Though it was plundered early in the 15th century, the monastery was restored in 1469, when Rilski’s relics were returned from Veliko Târnovo. Rila Monastery was vital to the preservation of Bulgarian culture and religion under Ottoman rule, even though the Ottomans sacked it several times.

Rila’s greatest modern catastrophe was an 1833 fire that nearly engulfed all monastic buildings. An inundation of funds from Bulgarian and foreign donors allowed reconstruction to commence within a year. In 1961 the communust regime proclaimed Rila a national museum, and 22 years later it became a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Dinner back in Sofia. An atmosphere of liberation and abandon pervades the night life scene of Sofia. Because there are few licensing laws, bars can serve alcohol whenever they want; therefore, at any time of day one can find a party going on. Bars and cafes often stay open until midnight or later. After that, the city’s numerous night clubs take over until 5 or 6 am, and after that, the bars open again. The city’s 16 universities promise that there is a continuous glut of young people looking to have a good time.

The old part of the city is situated on the three hills Tsarevets, Trapezitsa, and Sveta Gora, rising amidst the meanders of the Yantra. It has stood on one of the islands of the Krka River since the 13th Century, but today it is a luxury hotel and restaurant.

The path will lead you onwards towards Kostanjevica, the smallest and one of the oldest Slovenian towns. It is a true wonder of nature and fully justified in bearing the full name Kostanjevica on the Krka, as the old part of town is located on an island in the Krka river. You will visit all the main attractions: the magnificent building of the State Opera, the world class National Museum, the Wenceslas Square, where many historical events occurred, the largest medieval square in Europe, Charles Square. The tour will proceed to the banks of the Vltava River and across the river to Prague Castle. There, a walk around the Castle courtyards awaits you, where, among other things, you will have the opportunity to see St.Vitus Cathedral. After breakfast take a walking tour around the old part of Frankfurt. In the heart of Frankfurt’s Old Town (Altstadt), the Römerberg is an irregularly shaped square with the Justice Fountain (Gerechtigkeitsbrunnen) at its center. Not only is it Frankfurt’s most picturesque public square, it’s the city’s busiest pedestrian zone, home to numerous tourist attractions from its many Kulturschirn, a form of open-fronted shop once common throughout the old town, to the Römer, a complex of 11 lovely old buildings from the 15th to 18th centuries that include the Old Town Hall (Altes Rathaus) with its Imperial Hall (Kaisersaal), once the scene of splendid banquets. Other notable buildings include the New Town Hall (Neues Rathaus) from 1908, the 14th-century Gothic Church of St. Leonhard, and St. Nicholas Church, notable for its carillon. Also of interest are the Historical Museum (Historisches Museum), founded in 1878 with its collections related to Frankfurt’s rich cultural history from medieval to modern times, and the six traditional-style buildings of the Ostzeile.

After lunch, drive to Mannheim. The Rhine is Germany’s mightiest river and already very broad in Mannheim. While ships are quickly drifting down or cumbersomely fighting their way up the stream, take a walk along the banks of the Rhine. The so-called Rheinauen (literally Rhine Meadows, although there are more trees than meadows) are a wonderful stretch of wilderness inside this big city. Lots of green, a nature protection area which is home to many rare birds and every now and then some great views of the ships passing by – it’s a place to fall in love with. Walk in Lindenhof to the Rheinterrassen restaurant, a great place for some food or a cake – try their rhubarb cake!

The last stop of the day will be Heidelberg. Heidelberg is, without a doubt, one of the most romantic cities in Germany, comparable to such locations as Durham in England thanks to its picturesque riverside location, its beautiful old bridges, and castle ruins. Attracting nearly four million visitors each year, the city is chock-full of historic sites and attractions, as well as excellent dining and entertainment experiences. The old capital of the Palatinate and an ancient university town celebrated in song and poetry, Heidelberg lies at the point where the Neckar river emerges from the hills of the Odenwald into the Rhine plain. It’s also one of the warmest places in Germany, as evidenced by sightings of the occasional almond, fig, and olive tree, as well as its wild African parakeets.

In places where the hills rise a little too steeply, flights of steps or stepped lanes predominate, offering endless opportunities for adventurous travelers to explore. In addition to being an important fruit-growing center, the city districts of Berg and Bad Cannstatt are where you’ll find the most productive mineral springs in Europe after those of Budapest. Stuttgart is also famous as the cradle of Germany’s automobile industry, and is home to the headquarters of Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.

Board the bus towards Munich. On the way, stop in the old imperial city of Ulm, a must-see. Ulm, idyllically situated on the left bank of the River Danube and founded in 850 AD, is the economic and cultural center of Upper Württemberg and the starting point of the Upper Swabian Baroque Highway. The city’s two greatest claims to fame are Ulm Minster, which boasts the tallest church steeple in the world – it stands at an impressive 162 meters in height – and the birthplace of Albert Einstein, a fact commemorated in the unique Einstein-Fountain. DAY 9: ZAGREB, PLITVICE, ZAGREB

After breakfast, departure towards the Plitvice Lakes National Park and tour of the Park in the afternoon. It is composed of 16 blue and green lakes, connected with more than 90 waterfalls and rapids. For the beauty and the attraction of the Plitvice Lakes, travertine and the plants of travertine take the credit.
